The Watauga Board of Education named a new number two for the school system at last night’s board meeting after what Dr. Stephen Martin called an arduous task, “Most of the candidates were from North Carolina, but we had 71 applicants for the position.” The selections committee narrowed the choices to 6, called in for interviews, with four taking that opportunity, leading to the choice, “At this time, I would like to recommend to you Dr. David Fonseca to be assistant superintendent of Watauga County Schools.” Dr. David Fonseca comes to Watauga from the Winston-Salem Forsyth school system most recently, but he has experience across the state and a background that started as a child and undergraduate degree in Mexico, “It is a pleasure to be here. I met most of you when Dr. Kafitz was announced as superintendent. I had no idea that I was going to be standing in front of you just a few months later…It is my privilege, certainly my honor to be here in front of you. I look forward to my time and our time together here in Watauga.”  He has worked in all levels of schools from school bus driver to Associate Superintendent, and Dr. Fonseca will start in early October in Watauga.
