A number of ‘arts’ notes; The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce says local painter, Jay Winston, and his wife, Paula, are hosting an art show at Rustic today, with proceeds benefiting Mountain Alliance, the outdoor adventure and leadership program for high school youth in Watauga County.  They are providing wine, beer, and light snacks, from 4:30-6:30pm this afternoon at Rustic, 915 Main St—a good time for a good cause.
Tonight, it’s the First Friday art crawl in downtown Boone, with galleries and businesses open—and the new Watauga County Arts Gallery open in the former High Country Bank office at the front of the building at the corner of King and Water Streets. There will be music, refreshments, and a great time for those taking the stroll downtown.
Then, tomorrow, nearly 90 artists will help celebrate 50 years of Art in the Park in Blowing Rock. The event is behind the park on the American Legion grounds from 10am to 5pm. There will be a showing of art through the last 50 years all day in the American Legion area, then local band, The Lucky Strikes, will play in Memorial Park from 2:00pm until 3:00pm. Following that, the founder of Art in the Park will be recognized with an award at 3:00pm. plus an artists' reception will be held at 4:00pm. Then at 5:00pm, the gazebo area will have the sounds of bagpipes, as Grandfather Mountain Highlands Pipe Band performs. It should be a great weekend for art.
