New Era: 4G for Boone 'Smart' Phones PDF Print

For those of us with ‘smart’ phones, an inconspicuous change yesterday that means a great change for those who use cell phones for data and, well, like a computer.  The center of Boone was turned into a 4G with the Verizon version of 4G LTE registering on phones in range.  It appeared that technicians were still working the new system, as it seemed to come and go several times, but connecting to it, data speeds were well beyond the 3G speeds. Charting the signal, it was still connecting 4G just about to Watauga Medical Center, although with much less signal, but the center of Boone and the ASU campus was flooded with a strong 4G signal.  It was well over a year ago that Carolina West and Verizon announced they would partner to put in a system in the High Country, and the first evidence, well ahead of schedule, is here.
