The Avery County Sheriff’s Office, fire departments, and other agencies had to close off Three Mile Highway—NC 194, from near 19E to the Mullen Hill area after a culvert was washed out by an isolated heavy storm late last night. Several cars became stuck
in the stretch along Three Mile, and large rocks were washed out into the road by the rushing water. The NC DOT was called in along with the state patrol, and one apartment complex had to be evacuated for a time, but this morning, Avery Communications reports all roads are back open and those displaced are back at home.
