Seven former Appalachian State University student-athletes remain on National Football League rosters following the teams’ mandatory cuts on Friday that left the regular-season limit of 53 players in each organization. Rookie running back

Travaris Cadet (New Orleans Saints), third-year wide receiver Armanti Edwards (Carolina Panthers), second-year offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore (San Francisco 49ers), fifth-year defensive back Corey Lynch (San Diego Chargers), rookie wide receiver Brian Quick (St. Louis Rams) and second-year linebacker D.J. Smith (Green Bay Packers) have made their respective teams coming out of training camp. Additionally, seventh-year defensive lineman Jason Hunter remains with the Denver Broncos but will spend the 2012 campaign on the injured reserve after undergoing season-ending surgery for a biceps injury sustained during training camp.
Fifth-year wide receiver Dexter Jackson (New York Jets), second-year defensive back Mark LeGree (Chicago Bears) and rookie cornerback DeAndre Presley (San Diego Chargers) were released by their respective teams this week (Jackson on Monday, LeGree and Presley on Friday). LeGree and Presley may be claimed on waivers by any team except for the ones that released them. If they are not claimed on waivers, they are free to join any team (including the ones that released them) either as a member of a 53-man regular-season roster or a team’s eight-player practice squad.
The previous record for former Appalachian State players participating in an NFL regular season was set in 1987, when eight former Mountaineers played during the strike-shortened campaign.
