The response from High Country residents who saw the green streak across the sky just before 10 last night has been outstanding. National reports are that it was a meteorite, streaking across the skies over a number of eastern states, and picked up on a camera
in the foothills of North Carolina near Lawndale. The post can be seen at: http://youtu.be/WAjv5kyrNa0 Our first report came out of the area near Banner Elk, “we saw some large debris falling from the sky at a rapid pace,” and that, “We live in western Watauga County and were looking out a window on the south side of our house.” They described a large stream of light following a ball-like brightly glowing mass. Their observation was that it could have landed somewhere nearby Horsebottom Road or Dobbins Road in Banner Elk. Other reported seeing the lights in West Jefferson, Newland, Foscoe, a driver on I-85 near Durham, Rutherwood, and a number of witnesses said it appeared so low that it had to have hit somewhere in the area. So far, no ‘little green men’ to go along with the green glowing streak.
