The Hickory Crawdads recorded their ninth shutout win of the season, and second shutout in three days with a 9-0 victory against the West Virginia Power at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, WV Sunday. Winning pitcher Kevin Matthews

and two relievers combined on a three-hit shutout; Trever Adams backboned the offense going 5-5 with two doubles and three runs-batted-in. The win leaves Hickory three games out of first place behind the Hagerstown Suns in the North Division of the South Atlantic League with seven games left on the regular-season schedule. Hagerstown's magic number to clinch the North Division title remains at six. The Suns had their game with Delmarva postponed on Sunday.
Leading 1-0, the Crawdads (35-28; 71-61) broke the game open with four runs in the top of the seventh. Jordan Akins led off the inning with a double. Rougned Odor laid down a sacrifice bunt that relief pitcher Orlando Castro fielded but threw wide of the bag at first base, enabling Akins to score on the play. Odor advanced to second base.  Nick Urbanus then singled and Adams drove in Odor with an RBI single that gave Hickory a 3-0 lead.  One out later, Kellin Deglan hammered a two-run double off the right-field wall, plating both Urbanus and Adams to make it 5-0. Adams had a two-run double in the eighth.
