Ethan Greene and Drew Bolick combined for a five hitter lifting Caldwell County Post 29 to a 14-1 win over Pitt County Post 39 in opening round of the North Carolina American Legion baseball state tournament at M.S. Deal Stadium on Wednesday. The game was called after seven innings as a result of the 10-run mercy rule. Caldwell (27-8), which

is hosting the state tournament, advances in the winners’ bracket and will face Wilmington Post 10 (29-7) at M.S. Deal Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Wilmington, the second seed out of Area 2, advanced to the winner’s bracket by defeating High Point Post 87 13-7 in its first-round game.
Greene gave up a run on four hits in six innings with a walk and four strikeouts.
Tanner Dillard paced Post 29 with three hits, two runs scored and four runs-batted-in; Max Linville had two hits, including a triple, he scored three times and he drove in two runs. Pitt also aided the cause by giving up eight walks, hitting three batters and committing two errors.
