A Sugar Grove man was injured in the crash of his sedan in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning in Vilas. Emergency workers were first directed to Broadstone Road at 105, with the injured man calling a friend for help, and the friend relaying information
to Watauga emergency dispatch. But Foscoe first responders were unable to locate the vehicle there, and a second contact with the initial caller directed the effort to NC 194 near the US 421 intersection in Vilas. There, first arriving Watauga deputies found the 98 Ford slammed into a tree just off 194, Sherman Davis suffering some head injuries. Watauga Medics rushed the 41-year old man to Watauga Medical Center while Cove Creek volunteers handled traffic around the wreck site. The state patrol charged Sherman Davis with Driving While Impaired, Exceeding a Safe Speed, and No Seat Belt.
