A Florida woman was rushed from the scene of a single vehicle crash last night in Vilas after the car she was driving went airborne after striking a ditch, rolling twice, then crossed US 421 before coming to rest.  The wreck occurred at about 8:25 on US 421 at the NC 194 intersection across from Vilas Grocery, but the call for a helicopter to transport the victim was cancelled by Watauga Medics as they rushed the victim to Watauga Medical Center emergency traffic.  State Patrol Trooper Collier identified the woman as 21-year old Alice Elizabeth Waters, of West Palm Beach, driver of her grandmother’s ’97 Subaru.  Collier cited Alice Elizabeth Waters with Driving While Impaired and Careless and Reckless Driving in the wreck.
