A Catawba County man was hurt early this morning in a crash near Blowing Rock.  Unfamiliar with US 221, Fred Murray dropped a tire off of the pavement and lost control of his 2007 pickup truck, ran off the road and slammed into a tree.  The Newton man was able to call 9-1-1 himself and report the crash, with Watauga Medics and Blowing Rock Fire/Rescue dispatched to the 2:50am wreck.  Trooper Goldsmith reported that Murray complained of rib pain as he struck the console, and he was taken to Watauga Medical Center for treatment.  Goldsmith filed no charges in the wreck that totaled Fred Murray’s truck.
