Federal and State charges—and now maybe international counts— are facing a Burke County third-grade teacher arrested last night on multiple counts of indecent liberties with children—a man said to be an Avery County native. The Morganton News Herald said that following an investigation conducted by federal and state authorities, Michael Alexander, 54, of Glen Alpine was arrested at approximately 8:30 last night, with charges including two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a child, one count of indecent liberties with a child and one count of first-degree sex offense, according to Morganton Public Safety's website. Today, news that the investigation started internationally with a child  porn ring has surfaced, the computer in Alexander’s classroom confiscated, according to Burke authorities.  Bond was set at $1 million secured. Alexander had been a teacher at Hildebran Elementary School for seven years and also served as a teacher at Glen Alpine Elementary School for five years before that.
