Rising senior Tyler Zupcic of the Appalachian State University baseball team will have surgery this week to repair for a torn postier cruciate ligament in his knee. The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is described as the primary stabilizer of the knee. PCL injuries are less common than anterior

cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, and they often go unrecognized. The PCL is broader and stronger than the ACL; injury often occurs when force is applied to the anterior aspect of the proximal tibia (the top of the leg, or the flat top of the shin bone) when the knee is flexed. A PCL tear can result in varying degrees of disability, from no impairment to severe impairment.
Eric Breitenstein of Wofford College suffered a similar injury during the second game of the season during his sophomore year in 2009. He made a full recovery following surgery.  Zupcic suffered his injury on May 24 against Samford in the Southern Conference Tournament
Zupcic batted .338 this season for the Mountaineers with two home runs, 34 runs-batted-in, 17 doubles and 56 runs scored. He had a .486 slugging percentage and a .435 on-base percentage.
