A Watauga Deputy was slightly injured late this morning when his patrol car was struck from behind.  The crash was on US 421 North at the NC 105 by-pass just before11:30am, Watauga Cpt. Allen Reed just releasing his brake as the light turned green as he traveled toward Boone. His 2005 Ford Crown Victoria was struck from behind by the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado that 21-year old Melissa Wickham was driving, according to trooper Hendricks of the State Patrol, who cited Wickham with Failure to Reduce Speed in the accident.  Captain Reed was taken to Watauga Medical Center to be checked for some pain, but was later released.
