 Appalachian State University women’s soccer will play nine home matches during the upcoming 2012 season, head coach Sarah Strickland announced on Tuesday. The Mountaineers will play two exhibition matches in preparation for the
regular season as they open with a home exhibition against Campbell on Aug. 9 at 4 p.m. before heading to East Tennessee State for a final preseason tune-up at 7 p.m. on Aug. 12. Appalachian opens the regular season with a road match at Clemson on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. before heading to Tennessee for matches at Austin Peay (Aug. 23) and Belmont (Aug. 26). The Apps open their regular-season home slate with in-state foe High Point on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. before playing host to Longwood on Sept. 2. A second ACC opponent awaits when the Mountaineers travel to NC State on Sept. 7 before the team travels south to Asheville for a match against UNC Asheville on Sept. 14. Southern Conference play begins for Appalachian with a home match against UNC Greensboro on Sept. 21 and is followed by trip to Elon on Sept. 23. ASU will play two-straight SoCon home matches when it plays host to Georgia Southern (Sept. 28) and Davidson (Sept. 30) before a four-game road swing beginning with matches at Chattanooga (Oct. 5) and Samford (Oct. 7). The road trip continues for the Apps as they will face Wofford (Oct. 12) and Furman (Oct. 14) before playing their final three matches at home. Appalachian’s string of home dates begins with a match against the Citadel on Oct. 19 before its final two matches of the season against College of Charleston (Oct. 21) and Western Carolina (Oct. 24). The 2012 Southern Conference Tournament begins on Oct. 28 with on-campus matches in the quarterfinals before the final four teams head to Birmingham, Ala. where they will battle for the SoCon title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
