Avery County Humane Society is holding a Spring Fling event this Saturday, May 19, to celebrate the move into the new Adoption and Education Center in Newland. The Humane Society is offering a “Name Your Own Price” special on adoption fees for any cat or dog, puppy or kitten over 4 months of age. Volunteer Orientation classes will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Those interested in socializing kittens, walking dogs, or otherwise being of service to the animals of Avery County should attend. Shelter Dog Training for volunteers will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. The ASPCA-funded program will provide volunteers with the basic skills they need to become shelter dog trainers. Those interested in providing a loving home to one of the shelters can come by the new Adoption and Education Center between 10am and 4 pm to meet the cats and dogs, puppies and kittens, and talk to the staff.
The regular fee to adopt a puppy, kitten, dog or cat from Avery Humane is $85, a fee that covers immunizations, spay/neuter, micro-chipping, registration and a collar. Name Your Own Price
pets will have all these same benefits at a price you can name.
The event is at the new Avery County Humane Society, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at 279 New Vale Road, Newland. For directions or more information please call our new number 828-733-2333 or visit our website at
