Huskies, Sargent Win Western Regional PDF Print

The Hough High golf team shot even par and nosed out Myers Park to win the Class 4A Western Regional at Broadmoore Golf Links in Asheville on Monday. The Huskies bested the field with a team score of 288; Myers Park finished six

shots back with a 294; Ardrey Kell was third with a 304. All those teams will advance to the state tournament at Pinehurst No.8 next Monday and Tuesday, May 14-15. David Sargent of Hough was the leading medalist as he won the regional championship with a five-under-par 67.
Blake Childers and Tyler Whitesell of South Caldwell each fired a 74 and finished seven shots off the pace; they also qualified for the state meet next week. Austin Northern and Cameron Taylor of Watauga each fired an 87 ending their respective seasons; Alexander Central had a team score of 324 and did not qualify for state.
In Class 3A at the Cedar Rock Country Club in Lenior, Christian Carpenter of Fred T. Foard paced the field with a two-under par 69 to win the Class 3A Western Regional. Forestview won the team title with a score of 297. Hibriten defeated South Point in a tiebreaker to finished second with a team score of 307; South Point finished third. Forestview, Hibriten and South Point have also qualified for the state meet, which will be held at the Foxfire Resort and Golf Club in Fox Fire Village next Monday and Tuesday, May 14-15. Hickory, Fred T. Foard and St. Stephens did not qualify for the state meet. Carpenter will represent the Tigers at Fox Fire Village next Monday and Tuesday.
