Sean Soderman of Appalachian State University turned in an eighth-place finish at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., Thursday in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Soderman finished the race in 9:05.13.
Andrew Poore of Indiana University won the event in 8:43.52. Travis Mahoney of Temple

finished second in 8:48.18. Soderman is one of 14 ASU athletes competing at the Penn Relays this weekend. Landon Powell and Dennis Moore (men's 100-meter dash), A.J. Dohanic (men's 110-meter hurdles), Breanna Alston (women's 100-meter dash), and Erika Ivey (women's triple jump) are all scheduled to compete today.
The Penn Relays conclude on Saturday.
