Appalachian State junior right fielder Tyler Tewell has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 16-22.
Tewell batted .500 (6-for-12) and hit safely in all three games

last week as the Mountaineers swept Furman in Boone. Half of his six hits went for extra bases (double, triple and home run), good for 1.000 slugging percentage. The junior from Charlotte, N.C., drove in the winning run with walk-off single to right field in bottom of the ninth inning of 6-5 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, capping a 3-for-4 performance that also included a double and two runs scored. In the series finale, Tewell went 2-for-5 with a three runs scored and a career-high five RBIs in 14-0 rout. His two hits in the finale included an RBI triple and his first-career grand slam.
Left-handed pitcher Cash Collins of Wofford College has been selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week. The Mountaineers (28-10 overall; 13-5 in the SoCon), who moved into sole possession of first place in the league standing with their three-game sweep of the Paladins, close out their four-game home stand against High Point University Tuesday night.
