Watauga County Commissioners found the ‘other’ side of the issue of the ‘One man, one woman’ constitutional amendment set for a vote along with the May primary. The time devoted to public comment was well used by seven speakers criticizing the action of the commission

two weeks ago approving a resolution supporting the marriage  constitutional amendment, comments from Catherine Hopkins personalizing her perspective, "She chose suicide over stigma. Bearing witness to such agony broke something in me that I will never recover. I speak out tonight for her and for all others who have suffered and died."   
In other county business, the Commissioners approved refinancing the debt of the new Watauga High School’s construction loan, saving the county approximately $200,000 to $235,000 per year over the life of the loan, and they approved a Community Development Block Grant on behalf of the Hospitality House.
