The Kannapolis Intimidators plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to avoid being swept by the Hickory Crawdads with a 12-11 walk-off win at CMC-NorthEast Stadium in Kannapolis Sunday night. The Intimidators
(1-3) struck for three runs in the bottom of the first against Santo Perez. Leighton Pangilinan tripled in a pair of runs, and then scored on an run-scoring grounder by Rangel Ravelo that gave Kannapolis a 3-0 lead.
Hickory came back with a two run rally of its own in the top of the second. Back-to-back two-out walks to Jorge Alfaro and Drew Robinson kept the inning alive for Chris Grayson., who ripped a two-run triple to right-center field, cutting the deficit to a run at 3-2.
A two-run double by Joe De Pinto in the bottom of the second gave Kannapolis a 5-2 lead, but the 'Dads chipped away with an RBI single by Kevin Torres in the top of the third that made it, 5-3. Hickory eventually took the lead with a five-run fourth inning. Kellin Deglan sparked the charge with a double to start the frame. Sondgress then struck out Jorge Alfaro, but a dropped third strike allowed Alfaro to reach first base. Making matters worse for Kannapolis, a bad throw that sailed into the stands allowed Deglan to score and sending Alfaro to second base.
Robinson's RBI single and consecutive hits by Grayson and Hanser Alberto, loaded the bases. Rougned Odor's sacrifice fly to right field, which was dropped by Mark Haddow scored Robinson and Grayson. Jeremy Williams capped off the inning with an RBI grounder, that gave Hickory an 8-5 lead.
The Crawdads added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Alfaro singled his way on to start the inning, and scored on a run-scoring triple by Robinson. One out later, Alberto brought Robinson home with an RBI single, giving the 'Dads the 10-5 lead.
Kannapolis scored twice in the fifth, and the Intimidators scored again on a solo home run by Ravelo in the seventhm=, makng it a 10-8 game.
An RBI single by Alfaro in the top of the eighth stretched the lead back to three runs, but the Intimidators plated one of their own in the bottom of the eighth. Trailing 11-9, Kannapolis completed the comeback with three runs in the ninth. With two down and no one on, Dusty Harvard singled to keep the inning alive; Keenyn Walker chopped the deficit to 11-10 with an RBI double and moved to third on a base hit by De Pinto. With runners on the corners, a wild pitch allowed Walker to score, tying the game at 11-11. Pinto to second base on the play. After DH Michael Johnson walked, Pangilinan drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single through the right side of the infield.
