The Watauga Sheriff’s Office has identified the man shot early this morning as Daniel Wesley Miller, 33, of Jake Miller Road in Boone. Investigators say he suffered a gunshot wound to his right hip and right middle finger while in the area of Howards Creek Road near Connelly Road at about 12:15 this morning. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to two different addresses just north of Boone. A bulletin was issued for two white males fleeing the scene in a white SUV—one listed by name—armed with a 12-gauge shotgun.  Daniel Wesley Miller  was rushed to Watauga Medical Center, then airlifted by WINGS Air Rescue to Johnson City Medical Center after arrival. So far, no arrests have been reported.
