Junior Hannah Margolis was the only member of the Watauga High women's basketball team to be named to the Northwestern 3A/4A All-Conference team. Margolis, the only returning starter

for the Pioneers, led the team in scoring (13 points-per-game) and rebounding (nine a game). She also averaged three steals, three assists and two blocks a game.
Margolis, a point guard her sophomore year, is also under consideration for All-District and All-Northwest honors.
"We asked a lot of Hannah this season," said WHS coach Klay Anderson. "She was our most experienced player coming back. We placed a lot on her this season, and she responded in a positive way. She changed her role. She went from being a distributor last year, to being a scorer this season. And she made that transition very well."
Sophomore Savanna Wood of the Pioneers was named honorable mention. Wood, who led the team in three pointers, averaged 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists a game. The Pioneers (7-16), who finished in fifth place in the NW3A/4A Conference this season, missed the state playoffs for the first time in five years.
Alexander Central, coming off its best season since 1990-91, captured Player and Coach of the Year honors. Freshman Madi Suddreth was the Player of the Year; Matt Taylor was the Coach of the Year. The Cougars (22-7) won the Class 4A Western Sectional before they were eliminated by undefeated Myers Park in the Western Regional semifinals in Greensboro.
Suddreth and senior Marah Cockrell were also named to the all-tournament team.
Hickory, which won the regular-season and conference tournament titles, had three players chosen to the team. Danasia Witherspoon, who suffered a knee injury against R-S Central in the Western Regional semifinals and did not play in the regional title game, Yazmin Hannah and Aja Hoyle, who hit the game-winning shot against South Caldwell in
the NW3A/4A title game, were named to the all-conference team.
South Caldwell had two choices, Shaina Sams and Amber Gross.
