Appalachian State University’s Board Of Trustees gathers today for their quarterly meeting. Committees have been meeting since yesterday. The full board meets today at 10:30 at the Broyhill Inn.
The meeting typically includes an update on building and construction projects at the university. This meeting will likely include discussion regarding ASU’s proposed new College of Education building proposed for Downtown Boone. The Town has denied the project as originally proposed as it did not meet Town building standards or zoning requirements for the area. The Town has tabled discussions about implementing a policy of conditional use permitting until after they’ve completed and reviewed an upcoming Smart Growth audit. Conditional Use Permitting would enable the town to rezone a particular property with town-imposed restrictions or conditions.
