The bill is in—the state agency that handles Medicaid reimbursements to New River Behavioral Healthcare has issued a "tentative finding of overpayment," of $2-plus million dollars—and it came with a bill and instructions for payment. The letter was dated Feb. 6,
sent from the NC Department of Health and Human Resources/NC Division of Medical Assistance, and in numerous pages, it details specific Medicaid claims the agency has labeled "out of compliance,” and therefore denied. The news comes as the New River board asked for further review of the denial of claims, hoping to reclaim at least $500,000. The agency has gained some cash in the sale of vehicles, but it appears an amount that might have to somehow be divided among the five county service area served by New River is becoming clearer. Just what the reaction will be from the board remains for their next meeting.
