The Appalachian Rollergirls (ARG), Boone's only women's flat track roller derby team, will be hosting a fundraiser at Canyons Restaurant & Bar in Blowing Rock, Feb. 8th, 5-8pm, to raise money to help pay for a roller derby track in order to host games at The George M. Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachian State University.
Canyons will donate 10% of all receipts between 5 and 8 pm directly to the Appalachian Rollergirls. Members of the team will be on hand at Canyons selling merchandise and signing autographs for fans.
ARG purchased the floor last spring and is close to paying off the remainder of the bank note.
“We're hoping to pay the track off before our first home bout at the Convocation Center on April 28th,” said Jennifer Pillow, the league President. “These bouts bring upwards of 1500 people to the area and are a definite boost to our local economy.”
ARG is a non-profit organization and donates a portion of their ticket sales to other local charities. Oasis and Blowing Rock C.A.R.E.S. were beneficiaries of the team in 2011.
