Dear High Country Community, Are you familiar with the phrase, “If you build it, they will come?” Since moving to our new shelter in March 2011, we’ve been constantly reminded of that saying because we now embody and live it each and every day. Moving to our new facility increased our capacity by 68% and almost immediately we were completely full, with an unprecedented number of families and children - families without a safety net who need help during this economic downturn and children holding on to normal while their parents work to save enough money for a place of their own.
Families like single mother of three Anita who lost her residence despite steady income. With nowhere else to turn, she walked through our doors with her three boys in August, utilized our programs and services like three meals-a-day, laundry facility and computer lab and was able to exit three months later with a home that she and her boys could call their own.
Children like 6yo Brandon who got to experience, for the first time, a birthday party full of presents and friends.
Families like single mother of two Serena working a full time job, saving for her own place and beaming with pride when announcing that she "had just signed a lease and put down her own deposit."
Children like 8yo Kristen who not only looks forward to our new art program each week but is blossoming into a passionate young artist.
Children like 9yo Chris who now enjoys completing his reading assignment courtesy of our new afterschool program.
Since 1985, Hospitality House has been helping people rebuild their lives, but never before has the need for families and children been more prevalent. We pride ourselves on being a “family first” transitional living facility and we see successes each and every day. Successes that would not be possible without kind, caring and generous patrons like you. So, thank you for your support in helping us build a facility that safely and expeditiously helps us serve the families and children that need us;
Currently, 25% of our residents are under the age of 12 and your assistance is more critical than ever before. We rely on and need your continued patronage to ensure that all of our families have the chance at success like Anita and that all of our children like Brandon, Kristen and Chris, have a safe and happy environment to live in while their parents continue working toward self-sustainability. Please help us continue our mission with your year-end gift to Hospitality House. Together we can continue helping families and children rebuild their lives.
Todd Carter
Director of Development, Hospitality House
P.S. Please know that your gift makes a significant difference in the lives of the individuals, families and children that we serve. Happy Holidays.
