Yellow Mountain Enterprises is proud to announce the opening of the Yellow Mountain Treasure Box on November 1st at 9:00 am.  Yellow Mountain Enterprises has operated a thrift store for several years and is moving to their new location directly across the street from the First Citizens Bank, located near the Avery County Courthouse. The new location is much larger than their previous thrift store and will provide an improved environment as well as a larger selection of thrift store items.
A Grand Opening ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Thursday, November 3rd at 2:00pm. The ribbon cutting will be performed by County Commissioner Martha Hicks, who is also serves on the Board of Directors of the Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens, the parent organization of Yellow Mountain Enterprises.  Other board members will host a brief reception with homemade cake, cookies and punch following the event.
Yellow Mountain Enterprises is a vocation program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing work and educational opportunities for its participants. The Newland based organization has served people with disabilities in Avery County since 1976.
The Treasure Box will feature a wide selection of clothing and other thrift store items as well as handcrafted items from Yellow Mountain Enterprises. The store will be staff by volunteers who will be assisted by clients of Yellow Mountain Enterprises.
By shopping in our Treasure Box, the community will be supporting Yellow Mountain Enterprises mission of providing work and a paycheck for our clients.  Donations of goods for sale may also be made at the Treasure Box or at Yellow Mountain Enterprises located at 255 Estatoa Street in Newland.
While visiting the Treasure Box, be sure to ask about some of the other services our clients provide, such as our custom trophies and plaques, Christmas bows, and yard maintenance crews, to name a few of our enterprises.  By shopping in the Yellow Mountain Treasure Box, and ordering our Christmas bows, trophies or plaques, the community can help disabled adults lead a more productive and fulfilling life.
