Holland Making A Royal Impact PDF Print
Written by Staff Reports

Greg Holland, who played at McDowell High School in Marion, NC, is fulfilling his boyhood dream of playing in the Major Leagues. Holland, taken by the Kansas City Royals in the tenth round of the MLB Draft in 2007 from Western Carolina University, has worked his way to the big leagues in just four short years. Following stops in such out of the way place like Idaho Falls (Idaho),  Springdale (Arkansas), Wilmington (Delaware), and Omaha (Nebraska), Holland
is apparantly in the bigs to stay.
He made 15 appearances for the Royals last season. And since he was called up in May of this year, the righthander has been impressive. He picked up his first MLB win against the Texas Rangers on May 19. And for the year, Holland is 5-1 with a 1.80 earned-run-average with four saves. Holland came on in relief Sunday afternoon against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field and preserved a 2-1 win by striking out all four men he faced.
On the year, Holland has 74 strikeouts and he's only given up 12 earned runs in 60 innings of work.

GREENE STANDS TALL IN TEXAS

Jonathan Greene had a big season for the Frisco Roughriders, the Class AA Texas League affiliate of the Texas Rangers.
Greene, who graduated from Watauga High in 2004, batted .292 with 18 home runs, 29 doubles and 75 RBI in 130 games. He had a .482 slugging percentage.  Greene was taken in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball Draft in 2008. In five seasons of professional baseball, Greene is hitting .257 with 83 home runs, 326 RBI, 475 hits, 109 doubles, and a .454 sluggling percentage. He was a second-team All-America at Western Carolina in 2007.
