Kimbrough Earns SoCon Honors PDF Print

The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for the games played Saturday, September 24.

Furman's Chris Forcier was named Offensive Player of the Week while Appalachian State's Jeremy Kimbrough earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Georgia Southern's Ezayi Youyoute was selected as the Freshman of the Week, and Elon's Adam Shreiner was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jeremy Kimbrough, Appalachian State, Jr., LB, Decatur, Ga.
Kimbrough tied for the team high with a personal-best 11 tackles against Chattanooga as the Mountaineers rallied for a 14-12 victory.  With ASU holding a 7-6 lead early in the fourth quarter, Kimbrough picked off B.J. Coleman for his first career interception and raced 46-yards for a touchdown.  The junior linebacker was credited with 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and one quarterback hurry.   
Other Nominees: Rod Harland (The Citadel), Blake Thompson (Elon), Kadarron Anderson (Furman), John Douglas (Georgia Southern), Devyn Keith (Samford), Ryan Consiglio (Chattanooga), Brandon Vaught (Western Carolina) and Alvin Scioneaux (Wofford).

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chris Forcier, Furman, Sr., QB, San Diego, Calif.
Forcier set three Southern Conference records as Furman downed Presbyterian, 62-21.  The San Diego, Calif., native set new conference marks for most touchdown passes in a game (7), half (6) and quarter (4).  He finished 12-of-16 for 226 yards and also rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Following Saturday's performance, Forcier now leads all of FCS with a 212.7 pass efficiency rating.
Other Nominees: Darien Robinson (The Citadel), Aaron Mellette (Elon), Jerick McKinnon (Georgia Southern), Kelsey Pope (Samford), B.J. Coleman (Chattanooga), Deja Alexander (Western Carolina) and Donovan Johnson (Wofford).

 

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Ezayi Youyoute, Georgia Southern, Fr., QB, Wauchula, Fla.
Youyoute ran for a team-high 119 yards and a touchdown as Georgia Southern topped Western Carolina, 52-20.  Youyoute ran four times for 119 yards, including an 83-yard score.  He added one completed pass in the win. The Wauchula, Fla., native's performance was part of Georgia Southern's 634 rushing yards, the third highest output in school and Southern Conference history.
Other Nominees: Doug Middleton (Appalachian State), Akeem Langham (Elon), Marcus McMorris (Furman), Greg Peranich (Samford), Josh Freeman (Chattanooga), Shaun Warren (Western Carolina) and Brody Hingst (Wofford).

 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Adam Shreiner, Elon, Jr., PK, Marietta, Ga.
Shreiner made a career-best four field goals, including a 36-yarder in overtime to lift Elon past The Citadel, 18-15.  The junior placekicker staked Elon to a 6-0 lead with field goals from 25 and 19 yards out in the first quarter.  With the Phoenix trailing 15-12 midway through the fourth quarter, Shreiner connected from 36 yards out to tie the score.
