|WHS Volleyball Keeps Rolling Along|

The Watauga High volleyball team notched another win Thursday night at home.And the Pioneers (10-4 overall; 5-0 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference) hardly broke a sweat as they disposed of Hibriten in a three-game sweep: 25-5, 25-6, 25-9 at Lentz-Eggers Gym. It waS WHS's 26th consecutive win in NW3A/4A Conference play and it leaves the Pioneer in sole possession of first place.
The Pioneers lead Fred T. Foard (4-1 in league play), which had the night off, by one game for first place. The Pioneers, who defeated the Tigers in their conference opener on September 6, play at Fred T. Foard next Thursday night.
"We got a chance to play a lot of people," said WHS coach Kris Hagaman. "I was proud of the way we played. We came out and controlled the match from the start. We'll get a strong test Satruday in our tri-match against two very good teams."
The Pioneers will play Mountain Heritage at 10 a.m. and West Henderson at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lentz-Eggers Gym. Anna Church, stepping in for Kristen Carter who suffered a shoulder injury in Tuesday's match against South Caldwell, paced WHS with 31 assists. Colby Combs had eight kills and five aces; Hannah Stewart had ten kills; Channing Hagaman and Rebecca Hayes each had five kills; Kim Robinson had four kills; Kiersten McClannon, who moved up from the JV team for this match, had six aces.
In other matches Thursday night, Alexander Central defeated South Caldwell 3-1; St. Stephens defeated Hickory 3-0; Fred T. Foard had the night off.
WHS won the JV match in a two-game sweep, 25-22, 25-12. Whitney Dunnigan had seven assists and six aces; Bridget McKinney had four kills, three aces, five digs; Sarah Combs had four aces; Meredith Farthing had four kills; Connie Bower had four assists.
