The seventh-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Soccer Team (5-1, 2-0) pushed its winning streak to four matches with a 4-0 victory over Brevard College (2-5, 0-2) Wednesday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference contest on the road.
L-R junior midfielder Carley Griffin (Fresno, Calif.) and senior midfielder Laura Linehan (San Diego, Calif.) each scored twice as the Bears rolled to the shutout victory.
Linehan opened the scoring for the Bears just 7:11 into the match when she connected past a diving goalkeeper on a pass from senior All-American midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.), who was credited with the assist.
Griffin gave the Bears a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute when she finished off a pass through the defense by redshirt freshman defender Hanna Kiebel (Parker, Colo.).
Linehan scored Lenoir-Rhyne's third goal at the 55:34 mark of the second half when she lofted the ball over the Brevard goalkeeper after receiving a deflected save.
Linehan assisted on the Bears' fourth and final goal of the night just two minutes later as well. Griffin's shot deflected off the goalkeeper and the crossbar before entering the net for the goal.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 29-2 advantage in shots take in the victory while Hauck, Linehan and Griffin are all tied for the team lead in goals this season with four.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.) picked up the win in goal as the Bears registered their second consecutive shutout while Brevard's goalkeeper, Brittany Webster (Stafford, Va.), suffered the loss despite tallying eight saves.
L-R travels to Jefferson City, Tenn., to face Carson-Newman on Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m., in a key early South Atlantic Conference showdown. Brevard plays at Lincoln Memorial Saturday at 2 p.m.
