No Word Yet On Gainey And Tanyi PDF Print

Appalachian State University football coach Jerry Moore hopes to make on decision on the playing status of Ed Gainey and Lanston Tanyi by the middle of the week for Saturday's Southern Conference opener against Chattanooga at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Gainey, a senior defensive back, and Tanyi, a junior defensive end/linebacker, were suspended for a violation of unspecified team rules and did not play in last Saturday's lopsided win against Savannah State. Moore plans on meeting with both players individually before making a final decision.
Rodger Walker,a sophomore, started for Gainey and senior Demery Brewer. Tanyi's backup at the bandit position, got the starting nod last week against the Tigers. Walker picked off a pass that led to an ASU touchdown.
Our coverage of ASU-Chattanooga begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from Kidd Brewer Stadium Saturday on AM 1450, WATA. The Mountaineers (2-1) are ranked third in the nation (in The Sports Network and FCS Coaches Polls); Chattanooga (2-1) is ranked 13th in the TSN Poll, and 17th in the Coaches Poll. This will be the 36th meeting between the schools. ASU leads the all-time series 25-10, and the Mountaineers have won 13 straight at home against the Mocs.
