The Atlantic Coast Conference just keeps on growing. And the conference, once known as "Tobacco Road"  has a more northern look to it. The ACC has announced that the league is adding Pittsburgh and Syracuse. The ACC made the announcement Sunday that its council of presidents unanimously voted to accept Pittsburgh and Syracuse, a move that increases its membership to 14 schools. The announcement also leaves the Big East in a state of uncertainty.
The Big East is scrambling once again to replace two of its cornerstone programs. Boston college, Miami and Virginia Tech left the Big East to join the ACC. Virginia Tech and Miami joined the ACC in 2004; Boston College joined in 2005.
This latest move drops the Big East membership down to nine schools, and only six football-playing schools---Connecticut, West Virginia, Rutgers, Louisville, South Florida and Cincinnati. The Big East's exit fee is $5 million, and schools wanting to leave must provide 27 months' notice.
