A man was injured—airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center—after a two-vehicle wreck this morning on US 421. The truck of Joshua Allen Hodges and a Honda SUV collided after his pickup, traveling toward Tennessee, blew a tire. The 9am wreck was near Mabel School Road,
Rhonda Massengill was able to just pull her Honda off of the road with some side damage as well as a huge hole in the left rear tire, while the Ford pickup Hodges was driving careened off the steep embankment, slamming into trees, landing in a field at least hundred feet off the highway. First responders from Zionville and Watauga Medics assessed the Beaver Dam Road man’s injuries at the scene, and although he was sitting up and was conscious, WINGS air ambulance was called to a landing zone nearby where they met the ambulance and transported Hodges. Trooper Townsend cited Joshua Hodges for unsafe tires and left of center in the 9am accident.
