Bumgarner Loses Again; Giants Fading Fast PDF Print

It looks like Major League Baseball will crown a new World Series champion this season.

The San Francisco Giants, who claimed their first world championship in 56 years last season, dropped a 7-5 decision against the Houston Astros (the worst team in baseball this season) Saturday night at MInute Maid Park in Houston. And Madison Bumgarner, who wowed the baseball world with his stellar effort in the Fall Classic last season, suffered his 12th loss in 19 decisions.
The lefthander coughed up seven runs, six earned on 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings. He also struck out five and walked one. But the Astros (42-84) handed the Giants their 13th loss in their last 20 games. Fortunately for San Francisco (67-60), the Arizona Diamondbacks failed to take advantage of things by dropping an 8-1 decision to Atlanta.
The D-Backs still lead the Giants by 2 1/2 games for first place in the National League West; the Giants, with the Braves winning, now find themselves trailing Atlanta by eight games in the wild-card race.
Bumgarner (7-12 with a 3.68 earned-run-average) is scheduled to pitch against the Astros next weekend at AT&T Park.
