WHS Volleyball Wins Season Opener PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team had an easy time disposing of Mitchell in its season opener Monday night.

The Pioneers (1-0), who were sectional finalists last year, defeated Mitchell in three games: 25-11, 25-8, 25-8 at Lentz-Eggers Gym. Hannah Stewart led the way with 12 aces and seven kills; Channing Hagaman had eight aces and eight kills; Kristen Carter had 13 assists, Anna Church had seven assists, Ashlin Van Dyke had three aces and Rebecca Hayes had four kills.
The JV team won its season opener by defeating Mitchell in a two-game sweep, 25-14, 25-20. Meredith Farthing had eight aces, Haleigh Wallace had four aces, Kiersten McClannon had four kills, Sierra Hill had three kills, Sarah Combs had six kills and Cheyenna Jones had five digs.
WHS entertains North Surry next Tuesday night.




The Watauga High soccer team blasted Ashe County 4-0 in its season opener 4-0 Monday night at Jack Groce Stadium. Sam Schell, Logan Raichle, Tucker Chasteen and Alex Parsons all scored for WHS; Berkeley Wilcox had two assists, Jack Chasteen and Brian Greer each had an assist. The Pioneers (1-0) travel to Wilkes Central Wednesday night.
The JV team and Ashe County finished in a 1-1 tie. Dylan Hill scored the only WHS goal; Canyon Meuller had the assist.
