Events surrounding the Avery Centennial attracted thousands to Newland Friday evening and into Saturday under perfect summer conditions. The Tams jammed before a huge crowd Friday evening at the Newland Riverwalk, bringing people from a wide area to take part in the Centennial celebration. From shagging to the electric slide, the dance area was most always full to overflowing with revelers.  Saturday brought the parade under more perfect weather, then music at the Riverwalk into the evening.  The main three days of celebration conclude Sunday with music in a religious theme at Riverwalk.  Other events to celebrate the centennial will continue in two weeks with Centennial Sing!, a church music event at Camp Linn Haven.
