Crawdads Blank Shorebirds 5-0 PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, completed the series sweep with a 5-0 shutout of the Delmarva Shorebirds, before 2,797 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Monday night.  The Crawdads won six of the seven games on the road trip and are in first place in the 2nd Half Northern Division standings.

The Crawdads (57-36, 17-8) jumped on top with a run in the top of the first. With one out, Odubel Herrera reached on a fielding error by first baseman Riley Hornback; he stole second base, went to third on a ground ball out and scored on an RBI single by Andrew Clark.
Hickory put the game away scoring four times in the top of the fourth. Christian Villanueva led things off with a  solo home run. Jake Skole followed with a single; he stole second base and moved to third on a base hit by Alejandro Selen. Kellin Deglan walked to load the bases, and with one out, Jurickson Profar cleared the bases with a three-run double that landed in the right-field corner. That blow broke the game open giving Hickory a commanding 5-0 lead. Profar had a season-high three doubles and four hits in the game.
Winning pitcher Roman Mendez (8-1) went six innings, scattered seven hits and struck out eight; he struck out the side in the fourth inning. Andrew Doyle (two scoreless innings) and Francisco Mendoza (a scoreless ninth inning) closed things out.
NOTES: The Crawdads will return home on Wed., July 20 to kick off a seven-game homestand with Redneck Night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.  First Pitch is at 7 p.m., gates open at 6 pm.....It will also be Guaranteed WINsday, with all fans in attendance receiving a FREE ticket to a future game this season if the 'Dads don't win.....Also, July 20 will be another Conrad's Self-Esteem Wednesday.  Say the words "Conrad's Self-Esteem" at the Ticket Office and get a Half Off Ticket to the game, with $2 going to Catawba Valley Behavioral Healthcare.....Also, Wednesday is Unemployment Night - show your NCESC-issued debit card or online statement for four free tickets to the game.
