The Watauga Juniors lost their opening game of the Little-League All-Star Tournament Thursday night.

Wilkes, which pounded Morganton 14-1 Wednesday night in a first-round game, bested Watauga 7-3 at Optomist Park. The win moves Wilkes into the District 7 championship game Saturday at 1 pm. Watauga plays an elimination game against Morganton at Optomist Park Friday night at 6 pm. If Watauga wins, the Juniors must beat Wilkes twice to win the district title.
Watauga only made five hits; Matt Tyndall, Hunter Isaacs, Matthew Lambert, Adam Greene and Justin Greer had the hits. Greer had the only RBI as he drove in Isaacs with a base hit in the sixth inning. Dylan Lawrence and Dakota McCrary each scored on a wild pitch.
Isaacs suffered the loss. He coughed up three earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, but his defense let him down by committing five errors. Tyndall gets the starting nod tonight for Watauga against Morganton.
In the 11-12-year-old division, Wilkes American eliminated Wilkes National 10-9 at Memorial Park in Wilkesboro. Wilkes American now plays Morganton at Memorial Park Saturday at 1 pm. The winner plays Watauga Monday night in the District 7 championship game. Watauga must lose twice to be eliminated. The district winners in both the 11-12-year-olds and the juniors advance to the state tournament in Forest City, NC.
