Avery Sheriff Kevin Frye stated his investigators do not believe foul play was involved in the death of a woman on Buck Mountain Road.  When deputies arrived on the scene they called in detectives as is standard practice on all unattended deaths.  Detectives spent Tuesday afternoon along with the SBI at the residence near the TN line of Avery County. “We assume each death is a crime scene until we prove otherwise” Frye stated adding, “if you make any other assumption you could overlook evidence which may play a vital role if the death was found to be a result of foul play.”  Sheriff Frye said the woman had checked herself out of a long-term care facility because she had stated she wanted to die at home.  He also said she apparently expired over the past several days.  Sheriff Frye also praised the hard work of Elk Park Volunteer Fire Department and first responders stating “Those guys did an amazing job and stayed with us and assisted us even though it was an extremely hot and difficult task to do.”  It will be several months before all the results of the autopsy are released and an official ruling made in this investigation.
