Appalachian State University baseball assistant coach Chris Moore has been selected for induction to the Western Carolina University Athletics Hall of Fame, WCU announced on Wednesday.

A 1999 Western Carolina alum, Moore played for the Catamounts from 1996-99 and is one of three four-time all-Southern Conference honorees in WCU history. He  collected freshman all-America accolades in 1996 and was an all-American and the SoCon Player of the Year as a senior in ‘99. At the conclusion of his collegiate career, he was the SoCon’s all-time leader with 311 hits and the school record-holder in doubles, RBI and assists. He also excelled in the classroom as a member of the SoCon’s academic honor roll.

The Colorado Rockies selected Moore in the 11th round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft and he spent four years in the Rockies’ organization before embarking on a coaching career. He coached at Davidson, Lander University (including four seasons as head coach) and West Georgia before coming to Appalachian prior to the 2011 season. At ASU, Moore works primarily with the Mountaineers’ infielders and hitters and serves as the club’s first-base coach. He also plays a large role in the program’s recruiting efforts.

In his first campaign at ASU, he helped lead the Mountaineers to a 33-27 overall record and a second-straight appearance in the SoCon Tournament semifinals. The Apps took 2-of-3 games from Moore’s alma mater when the clubs met in May at ASU’s Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

Moore will be enshrined during WCU’s Hall of Fame Weekend, which is set for Nov. 4-6 in Cullowhee, N.C.
