Wilkes, Watauga Softball Both Win PDF Print

In opening round of the 9-10 year=old-age group in the District 7 Little League Girls Softball Tournament, Wilkes Co. defeated Avery Co. by a score of 11-0.

The game was played at Watauga High School. The Wilkes squad was led on the mound by pitchers Lillie Anderson and Lauren Anderson who combined to pitch a no-hitter on the strength of 10 strikeouts.  They only faced 17 batters. Nelson and Ricker were able to dominate the game. Offensively, Karson Anderson and Sapphire Nichols were both 2-3 with each contributing two singles apiece.  Wilkes county also benefitted from 14 walks which plated 4 runs.
In the second game, Ashe County forfeited to Watauga by a score of 6-0. The tournament continues on Saturday with the Watauga All-Stars facing the Wilkes All-Stars at 2 pm. The teams from Ashe and Avery counties will complete the doubleheader with an elimination game at 4 pm.  Both games will be played on the Watauga High School Lady Pioneer field.  The games are free and open to the public
Friday in Newland, the  11-12 District tournament continues with Watauga facing Wilkes at 5 pm and Ashe and Avery (elimination game ) will play at 7:30.
