Town Calls Special Meeting Over Tax Threat PDF Print

The reaction has been swift to the challenge of Watauga Commission Chairman Nathan Miller over the Town of Boone not approving the county’s choices for representatives on the planning board from the extraterritorial areas surrounding Boone.  Tuesday, Miller asked incoming County Manager Deron Geouque to research the process for changing proportions of sales tax revenues

as a response to the dispute, and the Town yesterday called for a special meeting for tomorrow afternoon to begin their response.  It will be an unusual Friday and day-before-holiday session for the town board, the agenda calling for an executive session on the county commissions threat to take tax action in the dispute, along with reiteration of action regarding the Jones House, its uses and consideration of extending the lease with the Watauga Arts Council on a month-to-month basis.
With those issues, and with filing for municipal candidates starting at noon, it should be an interesting Friday afternoon.  Let the fireworks begin early.
