Six affiliates whose signals span four states, including much of North Carolina, will once again be a part of the Appalachian Sports Network from IMG College in 2011-12, Appalachian State University associate director of athletics for external affairs David Jackson announced on Wednesday.

Headlining the re-signed affiliates is the Triad Sports Network, which operates 1200 WSML-AM, 1230 WMFR-AM and 1320 WCOG-AM in Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point/Burlington. The Triad Sports Network has signed a two-year agreement to carry all of the Appalachian Sports Network from IMG College’s football and men’s basketball broadcasts as well as a number of baseball contests live on one of its three stations.
Additionally, ASU football and men’s basketball broadcasts can be heard once again in 2011-12 on WPWT-AM Power Talk 870 in Bristol, Tenn./Va. and WDNC-AM 620 The Bull in Durham while WZGV-AM Fox Sports 730 in Charlotte, 1450 WHKP-AM in Hendersonville and 1470 WTOE-AM in Spruce Pine will carry all Mountaineer gridiron contests in 2011.
The Triad Sports Network, Fox Sports 730 and 620 The Bull will also broadcast Mountaineer Talk, ASN’s weekly coaches’ call-in show and all of the newly re-signed affiliates except for 620 The Bull and 1450 WHKP will carry Around The Mountain, ASN’s daily news and information wrap-up.
In the spring, the Appalachian Sports Network from IMG College announced the 100,000-watt WKBC-FM 97.3 (North Wilkesboro, Charlotte, Hickory, Statesville, High Country) will serve as the network’s flagship station for the 12th-straight year in 2011-12. Additional network affiliates will be announced throughout the summer.
