Madison Bumgarner had the worst outing in his Major League Baseball career Tuesday night at AT&T Park.

The lefthander coughed up eight earned runs on nine hits in one-third of an inning as the Minnesota Twins pounded the Giants, 9-2. San Francisco (39-34)  has lost five in a row. The loss also knocked the Giants out of first place in the National League West. They trail Arizona by one-half game.
Bumgarner, who had a 2.03 earned-run-average in his last ten appearances, got roughed up by the Twins, who have turned themselves around in the month of June. Minnesota began the month 20-games under .500, but they've won 15 of their last 17 games.
The Twins (32-39) got things started with eight consecutive hit, tying a Major League record. Bumgarner, who was finally knocked ouf of the game on a two-run single by Luke Hughes, struck out Carl Pavano to end the streak.
The last major-league team to start a game with eight consecutive hits was the Chicago Cubs against Pittsburgh on Sept. 8, 2009, according to information the Elias Sports Bureau provided to the Giants. The Twins also were the first American League team to open with eight consecutive hits since the New York Yankees did it against Baltimore on Sept. 25, 1990.
"It was pretty pathetic," said Bumgarner.
Bumgarner's ERA has ballooned from 3.21 to 4.06 following Tuesday's disappointing effot. He won't pitch again until Sunday, when the Cleveland Indians invade the Bay Area.
