Watauga County’s revenues for this fiscal year are turning out to be higher than expected. The Commissioners have learned that sales tax revenues could be $180,000 more than originally estimated.
Property taxes could be $1 million dollars higher. County Manager Rocky Nelson has attributed the gain to a healthy economy, increased collection efforts, higher than projected development and fewer appealed valuations. The commissioners may use some of the extra money for renovations to two area playgrounds, including the Tot Lot at the Recreation Center. The revenues may also be used to help with the Brookshire Soccer Complex.
