 The Region 7 All-Stars suffered their second loss in as many days. Only this time around, they have themselves to blame.
Region 7 made five errors Friday afternoon and lost to 12-5 to Region 3 in a second-round game at the North Carolina State Games at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Region 7 (0-2 in pool play) made three errors in the first inning and coughed up six runs; they made two more errors in the fifth and allowing Region 3 (2-0) to plate six more runs and put the contest out of reach.
The loss also knocks Region 7 out of contention for the medal round.
"We really hurt ourselves today," said Region 7 coach Mike McCann. "We little-leagued it. We made a lot of fundamental mistakes on some routine plays. It hurts because we're out of the medal round."
Max Linville, who got the start at second base Friday afternoon, was 0-2 with a strikeout and a fielder's choice; Ryan Turner, who played at shortstop, was 0-1, but he reached on an error, scored a run and struck out; Matt Proffitt walked and struck out. He was officially 0-1.
For the tournament, Linville is 0-3; Turner is 1-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. He's been on base three times in the first two games; Proffitt is 0-3 with a walk. Region 7 will finish pool play Saturday morning at 10 am against Region 1. Region 1 lost to Region 5 11-7 Friday night. Proffitt will get the starting nod for Region 7 in that game.
