There were injuries and a long line of traffic from a three-car crash on US 421 North in Vilas.  A woman was transported by Watauga Medics non-emergency traffic to Watauga Medical Center, but the 4:45pm crash backed up traffic in and out-bound, causing Cove Creek Volunteers to create a by-pass around the scene

to move traffic--albeit slowly.  Trooper Hendrix said that turning traffic slowed inbound traffic to a stop, the first of the three vehicles not quite stopped, the silver Mitsubishi stopped when the car of Eddie Ward slammed into hers.  Her car hit the vehicle in front, and her airbag deployed, causing her some abrasions along with neck and back pain.  She was transported while the other two drivers claimed pain but did not seek treatment. He cited Ward in the accident.
