Watauga Softball Earns Split PDF Print

The Watauga Blast, a summer team made up mainly with members of the Watauga High softball program, earned a split in its season opener Tuesday night against Happy Valley in Elizabethon, TN.

The Blast lost the opener 10-6, but came back to win the night-cap, 9-3. A four-run rally in the fifth inning wiped out a 6-5 Watauga lead in game one. It was was only Watauga's second loss in two years.
Riley Pudney turned in a stellar night. Pudney was the winning pitcher in game two. She gave up two hits and had three strikeouts. Offensively, Pudney was 6-7 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and she scored five runs. Hope LaPointe was 5-6 with four RBI and two runs scored on the night; Elizabeth Dollar was 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI in game one.
Kim Robinson, who suffered the loss in game one, came back strong in game two. She was 3-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI; Michala McCune was 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored; and Shelby Winebarger was 2-3 with a double, and two RBI.
Watauga (1-1) takes on Unaka Thursday at 6 pm at Happy Valley High School in Elizabethon, TN.
